Evidence-backed FAQ

Does creatine cause hair loss?

Direct answer

Current human evidence does not establish that creatine causes hair loss. One small trial reported a rise in DHT but did not measure hair, while a later randomized trial that measured hair outcomes found no significant effect.[1], [2]

What the evidence shows

The 2009 study measured hormones in 20 male rugby players. The 2025 study used 5 g/day for 12 weeks in healthy resistance-trained men and measured hair density and related outcomes.[1], [2]

Important limitations

The direct evidence consists of two small trials with different aims and does not resolve long-term effects or effects in other populations.[1], [2]
